A plugsuit almost never leaves the studio, and that is exactly why this Rei Ayanami gallery of ten photographs works. The white EVA suit was taken outside into full summer daylight — a pool, a garden hammock, a patio, foliage — and shot entirely in natural light. Rei is written as detached and slightly out of place wherever she is, so putting her somewhere ordinary and sunlit is not a contradiction but an amplification.

Costume in daylight

White fabric under open sun is unforgiving, and the set handles it by working in shade and edge light rather than direct midday sun. The blue wig, the high-cut suit lines and the red interface details are the only strong colours in most frames, so they carry the eye.

Locations

The pool gives the boldest frames: a dynamic poolside stance, and a quiet one sitting at the edge with the feet in the water and blue reflections moving across the surface. A striped garden hammock carries three photos — crossed legs, outstretched arms, and a close portrait in warm light. The rest are outdoor portraits: a side profile in soft shade, a close-up in direct sun, a frame under a tree in foliage, a hand-on-hip editorial stance, and a tucked-legs seated frame.
