Misato Katsuragi Cosplay — Akihabara Streets
Neon Genesis Evangelion
10 photosMisato Katsuragi cosplay — shot in Akihabara
Misato Katsuragi is NERV's Operations Director, and the red jacket worn open over the black dress is one of the most recognisable outfits in Neon Genesis Evangelion. This gallery of ten photographs puts it where it belongs — on the street in Akihabara, Tokyo's electric town, among the exact shops and posters that sell the series she comes from.
Why the location matters
Studio cosplay removes context. Shooting Misato in Akihabara puts it back: retro game posters, storefronts, crowds, crossings, and in one frame a large Evangelion mural directly behind the character it depicts. The dense visual noise of the street works against a bright red jacket rather than with it, and the frames are composed so the red always wins.
The set
Walking a Tokyo street, posing beside colourful retro game posters, a full-body frame on a street crossing, two street portraits with the long purple hair, a frame near anime artwork with the city crowds behind, another full-body street shot, the mural frame, a smiling street portrait, and a walk through a narrow Akihabara side street.
