A raised right elbow balances the whole pose. Rei Ayanami stands full length on the stone terrace by an olive trunk, near the edge of the pool, turned three-quarters to the left, the other arm hanging free and her weight on the far leg. She glances down over her shoulder with a dreamy, pensive expression.

The curve of the waist runs into the diagonal of the front leg, with the elbow as the counterweight at the top. Behind her the olive leaves stay soft and dappled, so the white-and-blue silhouette separates cleanly, and the high-cut line of the suit keeps a crisp edge against the foliage. Beige paving patterned with leaf shadow fills the ground, with scraps of blue pool water and garden furniture beyond.

It is one of the few standing frames in a set made mostly of seated ones.
