Seen from behind, Misato Katsuragi walks up a wide Tokyo street, head turned left in profile, eyes lifted toward something out of frame and a faint smile on her face. Both arms swing loosely out from her sides, so the figure reads as an open, relaxed silhouette rather than a set pose.

The camera stays at torso height and crops just above the feet. From here the very long, wavy purple wig becomes the main surface of the costume, falling almost to the hips over the glossy red cropped jacket with its black trim.

Soft overcast daylight keeps the street neutral and slightly cool: gray asphalt, diagonal white road markings, pedestrians along the road, a red traffic signal and multistory commercial buildings. The jacket is the warmest thing in the picture, and the figure is caught in motion.
