Kaine cosplay from NieR Replicant

Kaine is the intersex swordswoman of NieR Replicant and NieR Gestalt, and her design is one of the strangest in Square Enix's catalogue: white bandage wraps, an asymmetric bodice, one arm and one thigh bound, glossy black gloves, and a silver bob. The gallery of ten is deliberately split between two environments so the costume can be read against both warm and cold light.

The vintage room

Half the frames were shot in a lived-in interior — a wooden floor, an antique cabinet, a vintage sofa, hanging vines and leafy houseplants, a candle chandelier. Kaine holds a white lily in two of these frames, which is a quiet nod to the game's flower motif and to Emil's story. The warm practical light here lets the bandage texture and the strap work resolve properly.

The neon studio

The other half moves to hard colour: violet and pink neon strands, an aqua backdrop with a white platform, a striped wall shot from behind, and a doorway used as a frame within the frame. The sword appears here, resting on the shoulder in the kneeling shot. The final image is a crossed-arms stance in cool purple with the doorway behind.
