2B Cosplay — Katana And Studio Smoke

2B cosplay from NieR:Automata — YoRHa No.2 Type B

2B is the combat android of NieR:Automata, and the costume across these ten frames is her standard YoRHa uniform: the black gothic dress with the embroidered skirt panels, the high slit, the visor blindfold, elbow gloves and thigh-high boots, under the silver bob. A katana prop appears in most frames, which is what turns a costume set into an action set.

How it was shot

The whole shoot lives in one dark studio with haze and a red rim light behind the subject. That single setup is doing real work: the haze catches the rim and separates the black dress from the black background, which is the hardest problem in photographing an all-black costume. Where the light goes warm, the embroidery on the skirt reads; where it stays cool, the silhouette dominates.

Poses in the set

Ten frames run from a raised-leg sword pose and a forward lunge to a stool shot with both hands stacked on the hilt and the point resting on the floor. Between them sit a kneeling pose in thick smoke, a mid-turn frame with the skirt still moving, an arms-spread stance in red rim light, a blade held overhead, and a close portrait shot tight on the blindfold and the embroidery.
