Inosuke Hashibira cosplay from Demon Slayer — wild in Saklikent Gorge

Inosuke Hashibira is the Beast Breathing swordsman of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: raised by boars in the mountains, loud, competitive and always ready to charge. He hides his face under a boar's head, fights with two blades he chipped jagged on a rock, and goes barefoot. This gallery of ten photographs takes him where he belongs — out of the studio and into rough country: the turquoise river at the bottom of Saklikent Gorge in Turkey, and a pine forest blackened by fire.

The costume

A female take on Inosuke's look: a white wrapped bandeau in place of his bare chest, a shaggy brown fur pelt around the hips, wide dark-navy hakama gathered into black fur cuffs, black stirrup leg wraps that leave toes and heels free, and bare feet on stone. The long black wig fades into bright blue ends. In four frames the grey fur boar mask with its pink snout sits on top of the head like a cap, so the face stays visible.

Twin serrated blades

Inosuke's two Nichirin swords are the centrepiece: dark blades with jagged silver edges and white-wrapped hilts. They are held behind the head, gripped in reverse in a low crouch, lifted overhead in a V, laid across the knees and finally set down on a dirt road.

Two locations

Half of the set was shot in Saklıkent Gorge in southwestern Turkey, one of the deepest canyons in the country: sheer grey and ochre walls, white water-polished boulders and a fast, milky-turquoise river. The other half moves to a pine forest after a wildfire, where black trunks stand in rows under rust-orange dead needles, and to the dry stony clearings and dirt roads around it, with green mountains behind. Soft daylight keeps the colours natural and lets the turquoise, navy and rust do the work.

The ten frames

The cover puts Inosuke in the river between the gorge walls, one blade raised beside the shoulder and eyes on the strip of sky above. Next comes a blade thrust toward the lens with a cocky pout on the white rocks, then a bare foot planted on a boulder at the edge of the burnt forest with a sword held flat overhead. The boar mask appears in a symmetrical frame with both hilts behind the head. Back at the river: a reverse-grip crouch on a boulder and a reclining pose on white limestone, looking down into the camera. The set ends in the scorched landscape — both blades lifted overhead under a grey sky, a hilt resting on the boar mask, a quiet seated pause on the dirt road with the swords on the ground, and a full-length stance among the black pines.
