D.Va cosplay — an evening on a pebble beach

D.Va is Hana Song, the former pro gamer who pilots a pink MEKA mech for South Korea in Overwatch — the bunny logo and the blue pilot suit are known to every player. The first D.Va gallery on this site was shot under neon in a gamer bedroom, the second at a summer pool villa. This third set keeps the swimsuit and goes down to the sea: a pebble beach late on a warm October afternoon, with low golden sun, wind in the hair and waves at her feet.

The costume

The pilot suit becomes a one-piece swimsuit: bright blue with a white high collar and a small pink notch, a pink chevron across the chest, dark navy side panels, pink-and-navy stripes at the hips and small white panel prints at the shoulders and waist, with D.Va's white bunny logo outlined in pink on the chest. White thigh-high stockings carry the rest of the suit as a print — blue knee pads crossed with pink straps, the bunny on the shin and the MEKA logo. A long chestnut wig with a side-swept fringe, natural make-up and pale blue nails finish the look. For the frames in the sea the stockings come off and she sits barefoot on the rocks in the water.

The location

The beach is grey-brown pebbles edged with dry seaweed, with the open sea in front. It gives the set three backdrops: a mountain range fading into haze across the water, a steep rocky headland rising straight out of the sea, and, a few steps inland, fan palms with shaggy skirts of dry leaves, green shrubs and a quiet lagoon. Low evening sun from behind turns the wig into a golden halo, and the blue of the swimsuit sits right next to the blue of the sea.

The ten frames

The cover is a burst of joy: kneeling on the pebbles with both hands raised above the head, palms open, and a wide smile, with the headland behind. Next she sits barefoot on a wet rock in the sea, fixing her hair as a wave breaks into spray beside her, then stands on the beach with both hands in her hair against the hazy mountains. A laughing frame sitting sideways with a hand at the forehead is followed by a hand shading the eyes under a fan palm, shot through its dry leaves. Back in the sea, she sits on a rock with an arm over the knee and the mountains on the horizon. Then comes a calm kneeling frame with the hands on the thighs, and a moment with eyes closed and the face turned to the sun as it glitters on the water. A wide frame at the very edge of the surf shows the MEKA logo on the stocking, and the last is a steady look into the camera with the wind lifting her hair into a glowing halo.
