Photo 2 of 10

A modern wooden staircase inside a Japanese inn, its thick open treads hung on thin black vertical rods. Asuka Langley sits on the steps facing the camera, her right hand around one of the rods and her left forearm resting on her raised knee, legs crossed. She looks down into the lens with a smug, haughty look.

The camera sits well below her and points up along the figure, so steps and rods form a vertical grid of warm wood and black lines, with a dark corridor, ceiling spotlights and carved beams behind. Warm light falls from above onto the red swimsuit with its high closed collar, the white thigh-high stockings and the orange twin tails held with red interface clips.

Light gravel shows under the open steps, pale against the warm wood and the dark corridor behind.
