Rough stonework, pale plaster and the dark mouth of an arched niche form the backdrop. With the niche in shade, soft daylight arrives from the open space in front and falls evenly on the face and dress. The orange hair and pale yellow fabric separate sharply from the gray-brown masonry, and the wide blue ribbon choker adds a third color.
