Two tall wooden gates stand open on either side of a wide stone passage in the castle park at Himeji, and Asuka Langley steps between them with arms slightly spread, face turned to the side and away from the camera. Her curious, questioning expression suggests something out of frame has caught her attention.

The wide horizontal shot gives the architecture much of the picture. Heavy dark gate leaves lined with vertical battens frame the full-length figure symmetrically, and the passage opens onto clipped pines, shrubs and lanterns on thin posts under an overcast sky. Against the gray paving the costume reads clearly: pale yellow dress, blue ribbon choker and red Mary Jane shoes with low heels.

Red is the color most tied to the character in Neon Genesis Evangelion, from her plugsuit to Evangelion Unit-02, and the shoes carry a little of it into a soft, casual palette.
