Arms crossed high on the chest and head tilted to one side, Asuka Langley gives the lens a serious, slightly skeptical look from her one open eye. The body turns slightly toward three-quarters, and the frame runs to the upper thighs from a camera placed just above her.

Two walls of white rectangular tiles meet in a corner, and their black grid lines converge right behind the figure. The closed shape of the folded arms answers that rigid geometry, while the wavy ends of the copper wig and the black eyepatch break the symmetry. Even light from the front leaves clear highlights on the suit, and the crossed red gloves with their orange cuffs cover part of the torso, leaving the chest marking only partly visible.

The tilt of the head is what gives the direct look its edge.
