Esdeath stands in the narrow opening between two white panelled double doors. One hand rests in a loose fist on the front of her black peaked cap, half covering the white cross; the other reaches across her body to touch the edge of a door. She looks straight into the lens, calm and unhurried.

The room behind the doors is dark gray, so the white uniform and the white doors frame her like a portrait. The vertical composition is almost symmetrical, and the soft light shows the belt with the cross-shaped buckle and the lacing on the white stockings.

The frame that moves the set from the mural to the second half of the studio.
