Esdeath sits on a round white pouf in a wide, commanding pose, both stilettos planted on the floor. The rapier lies almost level across her knees: one hand holds it by the guard, the other rests beside the blade, and the point runs out of the frame. Her head tilts slightly and her gaze goes straight to the camera.

A wall of white panelled double doors fills the background, and the full-length vertical frame is close to symmetrical. The black cap, lapels and arm sleeves give the silhouette its structure against all that white.
