Asuka Langley Cosplay — Bamboo Forest, Photo 8

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Photo 8 of 10

Feet set wide on a bamboo forest walkway, Asuka Langley rests her cheek against one hand and keeps the other on her waist, head tipped slightly, with a soft smile for the camera. The whole figure fits in the frame, from the orange twin tails down to the white sneakers.

What holds the picture together is the repetition of the bamboo. Tall green stalks rise behind her in close vertical lines, and the raised forearm cuts across them as a clear diagonal. Against so much green and so many upright lines, the white Rebuild plugsuit and the orange wig are the two areas the eye keeps returning to, with the red details on the chest and the gray side panels breaking up the white.

The pose mixes two registers: the planted feet are assertive, while the hand at the cheek and the smile are soft.
