A matte white cube serves as the seat. Shinji Ikari sits on it almost square to the camera, one foot drawn up onto the cube with a forearm across the raised knee, the other leg reaching down toward the floor. The free hand hangs along the side of the cube, and the torso leans back slightly.

The studio is neutral gray and seamless, with a faint brightening behind the head and a soft shadow cast by the cube. Under soft, even light the blue-and-white plugsuit is seen at its plainest: deep blue legs and torso, white chest and shoulder inserts, small red-orange accents at the collar and wrists. Smooth, even tension in the bodysuit brings out slender, androgynous proportions.

Taken from knee height, the frame catches a gaze turned off to the side and a mouth only just lifted at the corners. After the colored-light portraits that open the set, the plain geometry of body and cube reads as a pause.
