Side-on to the camera, with the head turned back toward the lens, Shinji Ikari stands straight, legs close together and both gloved hands loosely joined in front of the thighs. The shoulders are relaxed and the expression serious. The portrait is cut around mid-thigh and taken from chest height.

The backdrop is a smooth graphite gray that lifts in a soft gradient around the head and shoulders. Soft light comes from the front left, and a cool edge runs down the blue side of the plugsuit, tracing one continuous contour from shoulder to hip.
