The set closes on a quieter, closer frame. Rei Ayanami sits on top of a CRT television with one knee drawn up toward the body, both arms stretched forward and the long white gloves folded in layers over the knee. Her shoulders round a little, her head tilts to one side, and she meets the camera with a serious, slightly melancholy look.

The camera sits just above knee level and frames her from the wig down to mid-shin. Up close the details of the costume read clearly: the white side clips in the blue bob, the red collar, the black straps, the gloss of the white plugsuit and the black-and-white armor on the raised leg.

Red light comes in from one side and cool blue from the other, while the screen beneath her glows green with a city skyline. The stillness of the pose brings the sequence back to Rei at her most reserved.
