Rei Ayanami Cosplay — Neon CRT Studio Plugsuit, Photo 3

A deep squat with the knees spread wide: Rei Ayanami sets one elbow on a knee and props her cheek on the gloved hand, the other arm reaching out to rest against a metal rack upright. Her head tilts well to one side, and she looks into the camera partly from under the blunt bangs of her ice-blue bob.

Red and blue light split the body into warm and cool planes, with the red side the more saturated of the two, tinting the edges of the glossy white plugsuit. The knee pads and heeled boots anchor the bottom of the picture, and the stacked CRT monitors behind form a grid of repeating rectangles that echoes the squared-off posture.

The hand at the cheek is what defines the frame: it turns an athletic squat into a resting, contemplative pose.
