A rusted, sticker-plastered shutter in a covered Osaka back alley, with Tifa Lockhart leaning back against it. The surface is the subject as much as the costume is: decades of layered paper and peeling paint, exactly the sort of texture that a studio backdrop cannot fake.

Leaning changes the body line. The weight goes onto the shutter, the shoulders drop, and the black pleated skirt and suspender straps fall differently than they do in a standing frame — which is the practical reason location sets produce more pose variety than seamless-paper sets do.

Light in a covered alley is almost entirely bounced, soft and directionless. It is unflattering for hard costume detail and excellent for skin and hair, and this frame is built to take advantage of the second rather than fight the first.
