Rei Ayanami is seated with the boots off, and the lens looks down from above, so the raised bare foot leads into the picture. Her eyes are on the camera, the expression calm and slightly vulnerable.

Green light falls across the scene in soft, blurred shapes, and a large, hard-edged shadow of the figure is thrown behind her, doubling the silhouette. The glossy white plugsuit holds its highlights against the green, and the long white sleeves are bunched up, partly spilling to the sides.
