Tifa Lockhart Cosplay — Osaka Street Shoot, Photo 1

The opening frame of the Osaka set, shot under the black steel arch that spans the entrance to a Shinsekai shopping street. Tifa Lockhart stands centred beneath it with one gloved hand raised to her hair, and the Tsutenkaku tower rises directly behind her head — a 103-metre landmark rebuilt in 1956 that anchors the whole district.

The arch does the compositional work: its dark horizontal mass caps the top of the frame and pushes the eye down onto the white cropped tank, which is the brightest thing in an overcast, grey-toned street. No studio light was used here. Flat daylight keeps the black skirt, the suspender straps and the red and black gauntlet reading as separate elements rather than merging into one dark shape.

Shooting a Final Fantasy VII costume in a real street rather than against a backdrop changes what the photo is about. The character stops being an illustration and starts being someone standing on a road in Osaka, which is the premise the rest of this ten-photo set runs on.
