Much of the frame is empty white studio. The camera stands well back and low, at about knee height, so Ani appears as a small dark figure seated between open white space and a large gray block, her chin lifted and her eyes on the lens, the attitude confident and teasing.

A gloved hand is held out to the side, and the line of the arm carries across the frame toward the waist and the stockinged legs. At this distance the costume turns into shape rather than detail: the black dress, the pale blonde twin tails and the lace choker are the clearest marks, and the soft, neutral light keeps the white backdrop clean around them.

The empty space does as much work as the pose. A dark costume in a pale room reads at once, even when the figure takes up only a small part of the picture.
