Both arms raised, both blades crossed behind the head: Mikasa Ackerman stands with her feet set wide, hips and torso turned three-quarters to the left. The vertical frame is nearly full length and taken from about waist height, so the stance builds from the boots up to the long silver blades behind her hair.

The orange seamless backdrop is flat and saturated, with only a soft shadow below the figure. Against it the steel and dark grips form sharp diagonals, and the key light from the front left picks out the metal and leather. The harness is easy to follow: brown and black straps cross the white pants at the waist, thighs and knees, and the winged patch is clear on the sleeve.

The red scarf is wound several times around her neck, and she looks back into the lens, direct and composed. After the blade-free opening portrait, it is the first frame to bring in the swords.
